The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation came back to Miami, Florida this past October for another Miami International Open. The Miami Open consistently attracts some of the biggest and brightest Florida has to offer. Held at Miami Dade College, there was a great field of competitors from many teams including Gracie Barra, Alliance, Lloyd Irvin, The Avengers and also American Top Team.
The black belt division saw some great names like Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu, Rafael “Formiga” Barbosa and Vitor Toledo. When the dust settled, Cyborg managed to walk away with double gold winning both his weight and open weight division. A great day for the Avengers team all around as the tournament was hosted in their home city of Miami.
The Jiu-jitsu in Florida has become very high according to the legendary Rillion Gracie. He has lived in Florida for many years and notes how much the level has risen and continues to improve. A very promising outlook painted by the legendary master, it seems as the IBJJF will be coming back to Florida yearly.
